Jim’s Favourite Becky Rose Gigs/Events February 09 –April 09

Some of these can be found on http://www.youtube.com/user/BeckyRoseMusic

Gig 19: Friday, February 6, 2009.

The Boathouse, UPTON UPON SEVERN

In the morning, Becky emailed the Boathouse to cancel due to yet more heavy snow in the morning, except the Friday Session gig guide on the radio lists Becky Rose at the Boathouse. So in order not to let anyone down Becky races upstairs to do a very quick change and we race on over to the Boathouse.

So with no rehearsals beforehand, a must on previous gigs, Becky delivers an absolutely flawless first set complimented by the fantastic sound that night but to top that on her second time up Becky delivers a jaw-droppingly good version of Come What May…who needs the practice anyway.

Gig 21: Tuesday 3 March 2009.

The Island Bar, BIRMINGHAM

Becky’s first gig in Birmingham and with Sam and Dale of Acoustic Brew who become very supportive of Becky in the future.

Becky’s sister Katie turns up with her friends from Birmingham Uni after a drinking spree in a cocktail bar on happy hour which added atmosphere to an already noisy and appreciative audience.

A good night was had by all!

Gig 22: Wednesday 4 March 2009

The Marrs Bar, WORCESTER

WOW!…DOUBLE WOW!!

Becky was doing a guest vocal with a band called bizarrely, FatBoysAreHarderToKidnap and after 2 numbers with a guy on vocals called Glen, they are doing OK at best and then Becky is introduced to the stage and at this point, myself and Cathy had no idea what to expect.

The intro starts up to Modern Girls, Old Fashioned Men and then Becky launches spectacularly into it, and the place erupts because her power is incredible and Becky is even bopping away at the end, and the cheering of the crowd was just fantastic.

At the time of writing this, this video has been watched 900+ times mainly in the US and beyond.

After this, Becky still had a solo set to do and not surprisingly was introduced as “the fabulous Becky Rose!”

Wednesday 1 April 2009

A Myspace milestone, tonight as Becky’s profile views, go past 50,000 since she launched the site on September 08.

Gig 28: Sunday 12 April 2009

The Cellar Bar, Flavour of the Week, WORCESTER

Becky was on first, to a smallish but attentive audience and with one of the poorest P.A.s around, so what makes this so memorable for me?

Well, tonight we get not one, but two debut songs, both of which are considered to be the strongest songs to date in her repertoire and they are Noises and Obsession.

Becky threw the full weight of her performing skills at them, and I was blown away, and this was originally a gig to be used as a trial run for next week’s internet gig at Base Studios.

Friday 17 April 2009

Base Studio Live Internet Gig, STOURBRIDGE

At the time this was supposed to be the biggest and most nerve-wracking gig so far but no!

We meet with Nick J Townsend (a new Champion of Becky) and the Reverand Tool who are incredibly friendly and funny, the sound was brilliant, and Becky was flawless.

While Becky was performing the Reverand Tool came to me and said that Nick had made him promise not to check her out on Myspace/YouTube first he wanted her live performance to be a surprise. Becky was 2 minutes into Don’t Leave Me Alone when he said “she is f*****g good.”

Sara and Big Bird were brilliant to Becky as well, and Sara came rushing out at the end as I am in the car to ask me to come back in, once inside The Dress In My Wardrobe is on the PA and I collect £10 for Becky….her first paid gig!!

Jim’s Favourite Becky Rose Gigs/Events Sept 08 – Jan 09

Becky has from the outset been a very consistent performer and aims to give the very best she can on every occasion, so this list is more about those gigs where it seems to gain a distinct vibe that makes it a night that lives long in my memory as opposed to the quality of the performance.

Some of these can be found on http://www.youtube.com/user/BeckyRoseMusic

Gig 1: Friday, September 5, 2008.

The Spread Eagle, HEREFORD

Becky has been told by Robby of Frantik that all she has to do now is start gigging, easier said than done! We had a holiday in Majorca first, and Becky is petrified of the thought of singing, and even suggestions of having a practice with Karaoke abroad are flatly refused, so we just have to leave it to Becky to prepare for it in her own way.

The Open Mic night has had some acts on and Becky goes on to a rousing introduction from Robby, and we are off.

Becky opens with a keyboard warm up (suggested to help her settle) leading into Samson. She comes across as very confident, singing clearly and no mistakes on the keyboard, people have gone quiet and are coming from different parts of the pub to watch her, then the song finishes and she gets a great reception. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y5UX_Jj51U

Becky does her other planned song and would you believe, they call for an encore, so Becky plays the only other song she knows and it’s from a computer game called Crystal Chronicles.

So we are all on high on the way home even though we can’t get from Hereford to Worcester because of flooding and have to go via Ross On Wye to eventually find home.

In the Studio with PC and Robby, Sunday 21 September 2008.

Fownhope, HEREFORD.

Becky records Fallen Angel (rock and acoustic versions) with Paul Cobbold. This was a wonderful, magical and strangely relaxing day

Becky very quickly picks up the ropes encouraged by an inspired, impassioned Robby. It starts at 11 am and finishes at 8 pm, Robby admits later that they were ‘beasting’ her voice, but it gets better not worse as the day goes on.

PC, master of concentration and cool suddenly says “where did she get that voice from”

Robby, after challenging Becky to hit a succession of high notes and she does so, beautifully, says in his inimitable Liverpudlian fashion, “f*****g sweet!”

We got a rough demo of the acoustic version but not the rock one, pity.

Gig 4 Wednesday 05 November 2008

The Marrs Bar Jamming Night, WORCESTER

Robby has said he is busy with Ten Thousand Flushes and can’t look after Becky until the spring of next year and that myself and Cathy should take over.

Becky misses Robby big time as she has used his enthusiasm and experience as a crutch and now we are entering a dark room and this is a music venue, not a pub and Becky is quiet, very nervous and she is panicking, we are all wondering why we are doing this.

A new champion has emerged at this point in the form of Peter Unwin, and he got Becky the gig here (her first in Worcester) and has helped since Robby left.

Becky has a shaky start but not that noticeable to the audience and by the time of ‘Suddenly I See’ is becoming visibly more comfortable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x56lV4Kz2us

Gig 11 Saturday 20 December 2008.

The Llama Lounge, Angel Centre, WORCESTER

This to me was the first gig that Becky really started to make her name with the other musicians in Worcester.

It was a strange but ultimately brilliant night, the place was freezing but Becky was getting encouragement from Craigus, Holly and Jez and we were in the mindset basically let’s get another gig under her belt but what happened was much better than that.

Once Becky was on her way she pulled out a stunning set and the audience were really behind her even clapping and stamping along to ‘Suddenly I See’ and she got an encore at the end and she covered ‘Fix You’ which I didn’t even know she could play, a very special night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBr9HWXKLaQ

The Friday Sessions, Friday 16 January 2009

We had started to listen to the Friday Sessions to learn about the local scene, the artists, venues and anything else as we were all beginners with this, when Andrew Marston says “so here we are, Becky Rose, first ever play on the Friday Session Introducing” and Sweet Reality is on the radio!

We knew nothing about it! I cheered like Derby had just won the Cup Final!

Gig 14 Sunday 18 January 2009

Bob Dylan Night, The Marrs Bar, WORCESTER

We didn’t think this gig was going to happen, Becky wasn’t keen at all on doing covers to order, so much so that we promised we wouldn’t get her any more gigs where she didn’t have control over her set list (artists, who’d ‘av ‘em!)

Anyway, after a lovely introduction from Peter Unwin she starts to play ‘I Shall Be Released’ and the packed audience goes really quiet, it’s obvious she has them completely engrossed, then the song ends and there are a couple of seconds of stunned silence, then the place erupts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIJZYo3vS-w

After a beautiful rendition of I’ll Keep It With Mine, Becky gets loads of feedback but my favourite was the guy who couldn’t get his words out but kept saying to her ‘you’ve got something, you’ve got, it, wow!’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FADcajGoB5Q

An odd footnote is that Becky has never played these songs again and in the future that strange fate awaited a number of other covers she would do
